James Haire was born in Crawfordsville, Indiana, in 1951. He studied sculpture while attending Northern Illinois University, graduating in 1978 with a B.F.A. He moved to Colorado and began working for Art Castings of Colorado. While working at the foundry, he also created his own work and in 1988 he began sculpting full time. He has placed many life-size sculptures in public settings throughout the country. His figurative bronze sculptures can be found in many private collections as well. He strives to imbue his sculptures with deep emotion, spirited movement, dynamic composition, and a little bit of humor. James Haire's sculptures are known for their dynamic flair and personable appeal. His ability to capture any pose and make it look perfectly relaxed make his work desirable.
Artist's Statement
I enjoy creating public works of art and over the past twenty-five years it has been my privilege to have worked with many communities creating art works. Working with many and various groups, listening to their ideas and crafting a piece of art work specifically tailored to their needs are what makes the work interesting. I think my ability to adapt and change an idea and redirect the focus of the work is one of my strengths as an artist. I have worked on projects ranging from small privately owned works of art to large scale pieces taking over a year to complete. I am willing and able to work with architects and builders and provide them with patterns and ideas and to adapt my work as necessary to complete a successful project.
